Huzzah!

Huzzah!

I've finally done it! MY car WORKS!! XD
I was putting the finishing touches on when my neighbor told me I shouldn't have used RTV Red on the exhaust manifold gasket, because it can goo up the cylinders.. Other than waiting for that to come in and to replace my cylinder head water outlet tee, I'm done!

So far I have:
replaced the timing belt, water pump/alternator belt, water pump, thermostat, ignition coil, plugs, wires, condensors, points, rotor, cap, carb hoses, diffy pumpkin, U-joints, driveshaft support mount/bearing, tires, top, brakes, oil/filter, fuel pump, battery, intake and exhaust manifold gaskets (and various others), replacing the cylinder head water outlet tomorrow, cleaned the carpet/interior/exterior, rebuilt the carb, and patched the radiator!

The shop only did the tires and the driveshaft bearing!

I know this car too well now! =S

I assume the driveshaft doughnut was also replaced. That is a MUST if it is old or deteriorated.

But congratulations on the other work. Let us know how it turns out.

The RTV to use in high heat situations is copper. I have used this on the motor in my old Toyota FJ40 as a exhaust gasket with good sucsess.

fyi , i have used high temp red rtv for header gaskets on race cars for years. it works just fine as long as the flanges and mating surface are square. the temperature across the flange is within the operating range for the silicone. when there is a uneven surface, the silicone will burn out as it was not intended to bridge the gap at those temperatures. there is too much silicone and not enough surface contact to take the heat away. having said that, there are better silicones and high temp sealers on the market. thats what we always had as permatex gave us the product for free
