Cables and Convertible Top

PO choose to replace the side cables using two different types of cables with electrical tape and they just came apart. I have the new cables and read on a previous post there are eyelets towards the back of the fold down window which helps draw the cables to the correct angle and helps keep the top taut. I find using the eyelets draws the cable down the window chrome and gets behind the rubber gasket at the base of the window. PO used a cable too large to use the eyelet. Is the eyelet used or modified to change the cable angle?

Second question how taut should the cable be set?

thanks. psg

It might be useful to post a pc of the eyelet you are referring to, so we are all on the same page.
The cable is very taught, I clamp wisegrips where the go through the clamp, and pull them by leveraging the wisegrips against the hold-down clamp.

as i recall the loops go to the front and the rear of the cable goes under the two scew clamps under the rear trim
these cables hold a few hundred lbs, pull them hard and tighten the screws

as for the sides there should be velcro to seal it "and the cables help near the top

casba always knows 8)

The car is out of my hands for a short while, new cam etc. So when I get it back I will look again and determine if it is best to not use the eyelets. thanks. psg
