1980 spider project

I bought 1980 spider and runs great but needs paint job. So I have started process of sanding, I plan to paint it Peterbuilt Yellow with black racing stripe offset. I am taking the engine out going to clean it re paint it, and paint the engine compartment, remove the hood trunk doors so all the interior out..... Ill take photos as I progress along...

Sanding is almost complete on the exterior now its time to pull the engine and remove all of the interior....

I gotta tell ya, that shade of blue is my all time favorite spider color and evidenly pretty rare, as I have only seen one in person and that was a 75. Reminds me of the 1970 Boss 302 in Grabber blue. I beg of you, keep the blue!

I have decided on "House Of Colors" for my choice of paint. I plan to paint the fenders sides with Peterbilt yellow, with black trunk and hood with yellow off set strip down the hood and trunk... I am in the process of remove the engine ( next week ) and dash everything inside the car to get a nice paint job. I also going to remove the doors and hood and trunk and paint them off of the car then re-install them later... any suggestions would be welcome..
This is the peterbilt yellow I am referring too

I would recommend you do not remove the doors unless you absolutely have to. They are a big pain to get aligned again, unless you are experienced in that sort of thing.

Like I do most of the time with Csaba, I'll second that.
It can be done,easier with two people. Tape the edges of the door. Have some shims handy, and lots of patience.
Marking the hinges relative to the door before removal helps.
After taking mine off, I'm still not really happy 4 years later..

As I have been working on this little car for the last few days I have really fell in love with it. With a mechanical back ground I have its no a problem, But as I see it I think anyone with very little knowledge in mechanics could easy figure out most things on these little cars. To be a very basic car they are very cool. I have no ideal why I have never seen one before I got mine. I should be in primer stage next week. Tomorrow in the AM I plan to remove the engine and transmission. Will be upgrading a few things in the engine while its out, Cams, intake, headers,carbs,resurface the head install high performance values springs , high performance pistons. Paint and reinstall everything. I will post photo as I move along with the project.
Trying to get little more HP so I can keep up with the 4 cycl racing club here in town.......

i agree with you on how easy they are to work on. I seriously think they fall in line with camaros and mustangs because the community support is there, the parts are easy to find, most everything that can go wrong with them is well known, and they just aren't all that complex.
and seriously, even though we aren't talking about the fastest cars on the planet, I don't know anybody who doesn't find the design to be sexy as heck, and its Italian heritage is just perfect for a refined auto lover.
what's not to like?

Saturday update everyone:
I remove the engine trans in one step. I also took everything out of the interior as well. I am going to do some research on having the whole car soda blasted to remove all the paint next week.
