Old new IDFs: Dizzy and Jetting Starting point

Post by stefhahn »

Hi There,

years of cheating show some results.... I'll be getting a set of IDFs (13&15 - not the 68/69/70 series) including the original waffle-inlet manifold and original turtleback aircleaner tonight

I have a 132 C2 000 engine in my car with the cams of a 132 C3 000 - this means higher compression (9:1) and slightly sharper cams (I remember this but not the exact timing) than the stock USified Spider 2000 engine. FI 4-2-1 header (downpipe stainless steel) and PIPER freeflow exhaust (see http://www.gb-motorentechnik.de/images/auspuffneu.JPG) - and the stock ignition from my '79 Spider including vac advance.

I understood from previous posts, that I can use vac advance from carb 2 or 3 - right?

Re the jets - as a start I've seen:
32mm venturies
idle: 55
main: 135
air correction: 225
pump jet: 40
pump bypass: 50
needle: 175

Let me know your thoughts - I'd appreciate to leverage from your experiences.

Thanks in advance for all your help!

ciao,
Stefan

You may want to run this post on Fiatcenter.com. Jeff Scheferman is our idf jetting guru. He has helped numerous people get their dual carbs running to perfection. As for the vacuum advance, there is no port on the 13/15s for this. There are vacuum ports if I'm reading the diagram correctly, but they are below the throttle plates. I'm running a 79 electronic dist on my 72 with the advance plate locked down. On my 71, I experimented with attaching a vacuum hose to a port on #1 on the other side of the brake booster port only to find out my vacuum module was faulty.

Thanks Denise - having asked at the FC site I must admit, that there is no real help over there - so a statement from a fellow FSC IDF-er would be great :) What should be the jets of choice for a good start?

I know a couple people running the IDFs on mildly modified 2Ls. I'll email them and see what they suggest.
