Are we all insane?

Post by nelsonj »

Ok, so at best our cars are 25+ years old. Something breaks basically after every (hard) drive. Most of us have given our cars names, usually after a female. We probably have 2-3x the worth of our cars invested in the restore. We have all had to learn how to "think Italian" and become master mechanics in order to keep driving. We curse our cars every time they break (and every time we cut our knuckles repairing them), but we keep coming back for more, and more, and more punishment because the thrill of driving the Italian machine - with all its fire - for that very brief instant where it runs perfectly, inspired, supernaturally, can't be beat - and the look from other drivers who "get it" make us realize there is a bigger picture going on here. Art. Majesty. Life.

So I ask, sincerely - are we crazy?

I think that we are not crazy and maybe not sane, somewhere in between,
the soul left unstirred becomes dead
My normal drive cars are comfortable and reliable, have AC, power steer, power windows blah blah but are simply boooring
My spider is the giver of life and yes, most people simply don't get it....

No, we aren't crazy. We are blessed to have discovered what others have not.

When I'm not playing with cars, I'm a psychologist (seriously). The answer to your question is:
YES!

If you were insane, at least you would have an excuse. 8)

Monday was a beautiful, crisp, cold, cloud free day in Seattle. I went out for a 75 mile drive in 43 degree weather with the top down. You decide.
