What a dump

Post by spidernut »

Returning home from a business trip, the Delta Airlines plane I was on broke down on the tarmac. As a result, Delta Airlines had to put me up for the night and provide meal vouchers. They provided a hotel voucher to a place of their choosing. Therefore, I am now staying in the worst motel I've ever stayed in anywhere in the Continental United States. If I only had video camera to capture it. Nobody would believe it. The only place worse that here was the Plumaria Gardens in Guam which had blood spattered on the walls. At least I don't see any blood...at least not yet.

Delta Airlines should be fined for putting about 70 of us up in the worst Days Inn ever. The best part is the plastic plate on the wall that covers a hole where it appears a pay phone once was mounted back in the late 1940s or early 1950s.

Delta was your first mistake. The sooner they disappear, the better. Now they're running used MD-90s that they have bought back from second-rate airlines.

Well, we do like 1970s cars, so I guess 1970s jets are also good.

Not sure which airport you were stuck at, but I've learned over the years to actually sleep at the airport rather than the hotels that the airlines have deals with.

One thing for sure, there is absolutely ZERO glamor left in business travel these days. God, I hate it.

Sleep last night? I got about 4 hours of sleep between the underaged drinking party down the hall and the voices and noises that could only have been described as "sounding like prostitutes". Bad doesn't begin to describe this place.

1. Ugly
2. Old
3. Broken tiles in the bath
4. Water damage on the ceiling
5. Sawed off bathroom counter (but they painted the end and the braces beneath it!)
6. Fake wood doors and trim with paint brush marks overlaping the faux wood
7. A decor that could be described as 1970 trailer park style
8. Rock hard bed
9. Tube TV that distorted every time you changed channels
10. KMart drapes
11. Bare pipes exposed in the ceilings
12. Peeling and mis-matched paint
13. And noisy (I intentially left this one for the number 13)

The only thing that was missing was John Candy sleeping in the bed with me, snorting to clear his sinuses and a sink full of dirty socks in the bathroom (a reference to Planes Trains and Automobiles for those who didn't see the movie).

Oh the joy.

perhaps won't make a difference but send a note to head office with a link to this post. mention the number of members that view the site.. Days Inn have to realize it is important to their future these kind of dives don't do them any favours.
Don't want to think about it really, but I hope you don't start scratching in a day or so

Thank the Good Lord that I made it home. First thing was to take a shower. I felt like I was OCD as I scrubbed and scrubbed and scrubbed. I had to do everything possible to stop myself from shaving my toes because they touched the bed.

On the subject of bed bugs, everyone should be aware when traveling of this GROWING problem. You won't see them when you check in unless you look for them. They will hide in electrical outlets, TV cabinets, crevices in the back of furniture, etc. The first place I look whenever I check in to a hotel is the mattress under the sheets and the mattress PAD in the crevices of the seams and cording. Look for reddish brown colored stains because you may not see any actual bed bugs till the lights go out and you're settled into bed.

Also, don't think that just because you are in a 5 star hotel that you won't be effected. A previous guest could have brought them from the flea bag hotel the airline dumped them in until they got their flight to paradise.

While on my soap box I would like to say that I hate it when Yelpers leave a bad review for a great hotel because they got bed bugs. This is such a serious issue for the hotel to know this information that it is imperative that the guest contact the MANAGER of the hotel to inform them of the problem.

If you are planning a trip, go to Google Images and look at bed bugs. This information will show you what to look for when you check in, to protect yourself.

Now, back to our regularly scheduled discussions.

Good idea. I believe we are doing a cruise Montreal to Boston the end of June next year. Have a few nights in a hotel. Going to check the ship as well.

John,

Happy to hear you made it home safely and healthy. I stayed in a place similar to that in Seattle when I lived in Bellingham, Washington. Look for the video in the mail. Should be there on Monday. Talk to you soon.

I guess it still beats wagon trains possible bed bugs and all... :?

As far as Delta goes it used to be my favorite airline that I paid extra to fly. I have not had a good experience with them in 15 years. Now I avoid them at all costs. The culture appears to have changed dramatically there. I also like to give companies a chance to correct their poor culture of customer service because all companies can go through that from time to time but I have yet to hear in any recent memory anyone saying their Delta experience was anything better than sub par. I also have learned to write letters for both good and bad performanceses by representatives of a company. In this litigious day we live in it is some times impossible for a company to terminate someone with out being sued for doing so and Unions typically "fight for the rights" of even the worst employee. It is much easier for a company to terminate an employee with a poor customer review in hand. Additionally when other staff members hear that a customer wrote in about their bad experience and someone got fired it makes them think a little harder before they put the "I don't care about your problem" attitude forward.

There is probably a good chance that no one form Delta has ever been to that hotel and some one thousands of miles away made the reservations for everyone. This is why whenever I am stranded I have learned to find my own hotel if the airline does not offer a chain I am confident will be good. It costs more but I'll bet after a couple of hours at motel hell you would pay anything to get to a Hilton.

i have to fly from Nashville to Providence next week and went out of my way to make sure i didn't get a plane change in Newark. i change planes in Detroit rock City! i have nothing against New Jersey, some really cool people live there. But man o man you need to light the Newark airport on fire and collect the insurance or something! start from scratch. i was a little dissapointed that so many good people lost their houses in the sandy storm and the Newark airport remained standing!
