Floor Fixin' - Do I Have This Right?

Read the thread on redoing the floor. Got my multi-tool, POR15 and fiberglass for some minor rust through. Time to order the replacement materials. Am I understanding correctly I need to lay down some barrier (Dynamat or less expensive equivalent), jute, carpet and THEN the fancy Fiat mats I want to buy? Thinking my floor will be four inches higher and my knees will never fit under the steering wheel again!

If you install mat, padding and carpet resulting in a sandwich thicker than OE, your kick panels and other items will require trimming to fit. A particular area of clearance tolerance is the center console. If you could see an unmolested factory installation, you'd notice that their jute does not cover the mounting points. If you're going to use both jute and mat, leave a margin around the perimeters so the threshold, lower console, etc. will reattach to the original holes.
