Gonna put the car back on the road

Cars been sitting for over a year and a half. Sold the rear end out from it quite a while ago. Started cleaning up the original rear end that came with the car and found some damage to the passenger side shock mount. So i grabbed the spare that I took off another 70 a few yeatrs ago. Need to finish taking it apart to see what kind of shape the housing is on that one.

Thinking about pulling the axles and changing the seals. Can I check the shape of the diff with a visual inspection?

Visual is OK for cracked teeth, and that sort of thing, but if you are going for a rebuild, check the lash or have someone do it. Not sure if that process is listed in the service manual.

Depends on how thin the metal is at the spring base and if you are fussy about what it looks like

As someone who does his own welding, I would not fool with that. I recommend you replace it

I second that. Replace the mount or complete housing.

That thing looks really ugly. I would replace it if it were my car.
