Secondary Grille

Post by FiatBen »

Playing with the cars, thinking about what kinds of mods I'd want in my dream Spider, and got to wondering. When did the second grille opening first appear? Here's a couple of (lousy) pics of what I'm talking about.

Early front ends were solid (as in my '69s)

Later front ends had a second grill below the first (like this '77)

Anybody got a definitive answer?

2L didn't show up until late '79. Was '75 the first year for the 1800? I thought they came out in '74.

yeah, what I meant was I think the size of the lower grill progressively got bigger, When did the CSA come out, they had the lower front grill (Even though the number plate is covering it up??)

The 2L is much bigger

once introduced the lower grill in the spider has been the same for the 75-on the mounting changed a bit in 79 with the addition of 2 small holes for the screws, instead of having to wrench from the back side and there is a small pressing difference in the front which flattened out where the bumper shocks go, the early ones had a rectangular pressing, almost unnoticable. the hole shape has always been the same
