Muffler

Its me again,
(I am the one who has a post for help with the Pinn. hardtop). Recently, I did a complete rebuild on my 1800 engine. I used 1608 cams and cam gears, 4 into 2 (1608 Exhaust) manifold and 2 into 1 header for optimum flow. I went to my local performance muffler shop and he put in a low restriction resonator and lo restriction muffler (NO CAT in the system now).

The problem is that the muffler sounds like it has a baffle loose, as when I get on it, it has a rattle/vibration that is forrien to the way that a FIat is suppose to sound. I do not like it and returned to the shop. THe owner said that that is the way that that muffler is built. If I put in a Flomaster or other performance muffler, it would sound even louder.

I want good performance as the car is really responsive (sans emission equipment), but the noise takes away from the pleasure of driving it. If I do not accelerate too hard, there is no "rattle". But if I step on it, BRRRAAAAAAM. If it were a track car, that would be another matter. However, it is my daily driver and it is bugging me.

Before I go back to his shop, can anyone tell me of a muffler that would suite my needs. It is not the more audible sound, just the "rattle" of the muffler that is offensive. I asked him if there weren't a baffle broken loose and he assured me that it wasn't. If he put another muffler (of the same brand) on, it would sound the same. ? ? ?

Your assistance on this problem will be deeply appreciated.

Randy

what style of muffler did you use; baffled or straight through? What diameter pipe?

Randy,

It was nice talking to you today.

Ansa has a line of universal mufflers called 'Silverline'. A lot of muffler shops carry them. We carry one with dual tips.
I have the 'no tip' version on my Spider with a resonator in front of the axle, and the car is quiet enough for everyday driving, and sounds nice at full throttle.
