Slow squeeeeeeeeeeeeek....
When I am moving slowly, particularly when I am backing out of the garage and slightly turning the steering wheel, my car does a slow loud continuous squeek. Whenever someone goes to take a ride, they immediately think something horrible is happening. It has done this since I have been driving it (only a few months really). I don't notice it when I am actually driving, just when going very slow and turning the steering wheel. Sounds like the passenger side only. What is causing it?

Re: Slow squeeeeeeeeeeeeek....
My Courier has done this since I replaced one of the front calipers (used), squeeeek at very slow speed , especially when wheel is turned, I have determined (I think) that the brake pads are dragging just slightly on that side.
I have a bit of a twist in the soft line to the caliper & I think that it is restricting the caliper from retracting fully & when turning is twisting the brake hose further increasing the pad pressure slightly to make it drag & squeek more.
It also has the wedge style calipers like the Fiat, so it could also be the wedges binding on that side too. I haven't fixed it yet so can't say exactly which.

Re: Slow squeeeeeeeeeeeeek....
I have all new brakes and its not that kind of squeek. More like a low pitched sound, but very loud like someone closing an old door in a horror movie and it sounds like its in the body of the car. Think of the noise in the movies that a submarine makes when it dives down too low and the water pressure outside makes the whole submarine moan. Like that.

Re: Slow squeeeeeeeeeeeeek....
It sounds like you can get this to happen regularly. So can you get someone to help you? How about having someone push or pull up and down on your bumper while you are slowly backing out of the of the garage to see if it changes the sound. If it's the up and down it may be bushings in the front end. I would suggest getting some silicone grease and push as much as you can into all of the rubber bushings in the A arms, sway bars, etc. That solved my problem of squeaks every time I went over a speed bump. I used an old ice pick to gently make gaps in the bushing where the rubber meets the metal so I could get the grease into the bushing. I then built up a little around the edges. No squeaks for over 2 years now.

Seizing Ujoint will squeek at low speed. Makes a nice, spooky creek sometimes
Usually Ujoint will show rust around edges of cups.

Re: Slow squeeeeeeeeeeeeek....
Greasing the bushings sounds like a good inexpensive attempt. I really think its in the suspension/steering area so I think I will try that. Have to wait for my son to have some free time, I'm just out of surgery so I probably shouldn't try getting under there myself for a week or two.

Re: Slow squeeeeeeeeeeeeek....
Found out that the steering box and idler box are suppose to be full of oil. They weren't. Now they are.
I also realize that the car does not have to move for it to squeek. It is definately steering related. I am pretty sure its still the idler box, even with oil in it now. Must have been dry for a very long time.

Has the sound gone away. This definitely seems like the sound mine is making and the same circumstances.
