Water pump for 1969

Post by HuntingtonSpider »

I remember reading that there are differences in the water pumps for the early cars. How do I know which one I need for my 69, I see there are a few options for sale, i.e. "electromagnetic water pump", etc. There are multiple ones on eBay that say they will work, but which one is right?

I'd contact one of our vendors to make sure. There is a difference I think as I needed on for the 72 and it looked a bit different to the 80 pump I had on the shelf.

68s has an electro something fan clutch with the fan on the water pump. could be a few early 69s have the same setup. These cars had a notch in the front x member where the radiator set a little more forward in the car. They also had a metal fan shroud which is hard to find. Got one of those stashed away. Narfire, chances are the pump for the 2 liter is different then the pump for the 1600.. The 1438 has 2 different water pumps that I know of. One for cars with an electric fan and one for the waterpump mounted fan.

It depends whether your car still has the waterpump mounted fan or not. There is one type with a long shaft that mounts the fan, and the later type that only mounts the waterpump pulley.
Do yourself a favor and buy parts form a Fiat parts vendor that is knowledgeable about your car, instead of eBay, where you have no idea if the sellers knows what he is selling or not. On, and yes, I am biased :-)

You can always just buy the later fan and install an electric fan in front of the radiator like I did on my old 68.
