i would like to get your ideas and examples of alternative shift knobs or even reconfiguration of the shift lever itself. does anybody know the thread size and pitch of the shaft to assist in finding a different knob? i used to have a Camaro with a stick shift and it had an oversize black round stitched ball. i loved that and would like to find something along those lines. if anybody has one of those old Camaro shift knobs they would like to part with or can get your hands on one easily, please contact me. thank you.
if you have cool pictures of a custom shift knob please post them here!

Re: shift knobs
Probably not what you are looking for, but I made mine out of maple. Really cheap, easy, and I think it looks a lot better than the old one! All I did was pull the metal threaded piece out of the original knob, bored a hole in the new one, and press fit it in.

Re: shift knobs
not a great image. I'll take a better one this evening.
This is a "burnished" Titanium knob, with the Scuderia Ferrari logo engraved on it. My kids got it for me many years ago, when I went out to buy my first Ferrari, and came back with another Fiat Spider.
It is mounted to the now famous "Michigan Short_Shifter".
I like to have a shift-knob with some heft to it. I don't like the feel of plastic or wood, as they're too light and prone to "wiggle". The ONLY down-side to this knob is that I fear it'll one day not be there when I come back to my parked car. I use LOTS of loctite on it. And a proximity-sensor type alarm system.

I'm no Boy-Racer..... but if I can't take every on-ramp at TWICE the posted limit.... I'm a total failure!
Re: shift knobs

Re: shift knobs
I still like the original on my '69. I have a mahogany knob with a Fiat emblem but this is still my favorite.

Original knob:
Hard to see but the new knob is a leather wrapped with the Fiat crest (center one):

Re: shift knobs
I went with a simple round black hard vinyl knob. However I am on the lookout for a wood one that would match my dash.

Re: shift knobs
thanks toby. the black one is awesome. where did you find that one? i was wanting one of the black leather oversized ball shifters from the 82-92 camaro but cant seem to find one
Re: shift knobs
I got it on e bay and here is one I just found

You drill an 8.2 mm to 8.4mm hole in it and than cut the threads (M10x1,25). The material is very nice to work with.
