1980 carbureted spider header question

Post by jhoffmanjr1968 »

What are my options on finding a header? International said I would have to buy the injected header and change the whole exhaust with it? I would hate to buy a header from a vendor just to find out it doesn't fit.
Thanks for any help!

adding a header and keeping the stock exhaust won't do much for improved performance. So unless you're going for just the look, you should improve the whole system

then, once you delve into the exhaust.....whatcha gonna do about that egr port? will you be changing out your intake and the carburetor, or will you plug off that return port?

not a simple modification when you finally look at the whole picture. easy to do, but not in a couple of hours, or with one or two parts.

I have my replacement 1800 head ready to be bolted on. I have removed all emissions---saved the stuff if anyone needs it. I have a 34adf and manifold that will be going on.
we could talk inner timing belt covers but i will leave that for another conversation.

oh c'mon! open that timing cover bag or worms! I vote for taking the inner cover off and promptly losing it, never to be installed again

What would be the reasoning for this preference?

it just adds so much time to a t-belt replacement and really serves no purpose. I like to be able to easily inspect the belt and seals. Just my preference.

After all the crap I recently went through to get that inner timing cover off, I was very glad to 'misplace' that piece of crap. Add it to the list of other miscellaneous parts and bolts I inevitably have leftover after working on the car.

got some time this weekend---inner timing belt cover off---yeah!!----destroyed promptly!! Mark, agree with your comment about replacing whole system. going to be the next project. At this point just want to make my once running car, which I made not running--run once again. getting close--figure about 3 to 4 more hours until complete.
Thanks for the advice, very much appreciated.
