How much coolant to fill completely empty system

I've been googling coolant all morning and searching in here. Folks seem to stick with 50/50 ethylene glycol or that blue stuff. But how much coolant do I need to fill up a completely drained system. All hoses were off and this car had been siting a while. I can't imagine there's anything left in it. I redid the radiator so that's bone dry.

For my 1975 124 the manual says the cooling system takes 8.5 quarts (2 1/4 gallons).

Oh good. That's not too bad. My 81 should be similar if not the same.
