I know I have not Posted any new work on the spider since spring last year. Over the year I have LOVED ! , ENJOYED !, CRAVED !, driving my spider. so new for this spring. I have bought (yet to install) new shocks, tie rods, upper and lower control arms, head gasket kit, head bolts, I am debating new shocks. I do no want to raise my ride height.
my question is who has bought the performance red springs ?
did you cut them or not ?
are you happy or not ?
can you tell the ride difference?

Re: Advise ?
I have the IAP red springs. I had KYB shocks and the car still seemed a bit high so I cut 1 coil from the rears and the wheel wells filled in nicely. I left the fronts alone. Drove it like that for several years. Good handling, ride was stiffer than stock but I did'nt mind. I have 15 inch wheels as well.
Late last year I put a 1" front sway bar on and swapped to Koni's all round, still with the red springs. The car settled another 1/2 to 1 inch and might be a bit low now in the rear(red springs and koni's...no need to cut anything) but the handling fun factor went waaayyy up.

Well... I have driven a stock springed 80 FI with kyb's and my current car with the kyb's and reds and current car with reds, koni's and 1" front sway bar and the last set up is what I like the best, really seems smooth in the corners and well... I love it.
I purchaced my Koni's here

Grit,
FWIW I've got stock KYB's new red IAP springs on stock 13" wheels. Brought it down 1 to 1 1/2 in. all around. Much better now than when on the old springs. Evened it out side to side too. Here's how it sits now:

Re: Advise ?
Tony,
There was a discussion on MIrafiori about springs and the general consensus was that cutting springs left you with a very harsh ride and the so called performance springs weren't a whole lot better.
I've ordered the progressive springs from Spider Point which are supposed to provide a softer ride while cruising and get stiffer if you get into the twisties. Supposed to lower the car by about and inch and a half. I've got yellow Koni's on the car now and I'll let you know what I think of the springs once I get them and put them on.

Re: Advise ?
John, what did you pay for the Spider Point springs, shipped? I sent an email to the company, but still waiting to hear back. I suspect shipping might be around $50, but I know that the prices on the site also include German tax that we don't have to pay.
I'm not happy my cut stock springs (the ride is very uncontrolled) and I'm between the Spider Point springs and IAP's red springs to pair with my yellow Konis.

I'm not sure I have a clear answer for you. I too sent them an email asking for clarification on the 19% German sales tax.
I have yet to hear back from them. I sold myself on the springs and just ordered them about a week ago anyway. I did get a confirmation from SP for the order, but do not know if they have shipped yet. My credit card indicates that a preliminary charge of $332.25 was made, but that the charge is not final and may change. I can only assume at this point that it includes the 19% tax.
217,66 Euros at an exchange rate of 1.3149/dollar equals $286.20. Figure $46.05 shipping to Phoenix.
If I hear differently, I'll post the change.

Re: Advise ?
Interesting...
I've only ordered one item from Spider Point before (fiberglass fender flares) and I recall the price they billed me for originally was the price I paid, but they did deduct the tax from that price and shipping was around $50 for a fairly large, but relatively light box.
I just ordered the IAP springs. I decided I'm not concerned about a little extra stiffness and judging from responses here and on Mirafiori, it seems that with my Konis the ride height should be where I want it to be.
Good luck with the SP springs, I'm sure the progressive rate will give you what you're after. I have experience with progressive springs on a previous daily-driven Toyota and was quite happy with the ride.

Re: Advise ?
So how did the SpiderPoint springs work out? It's an interesting option for me (just over the border).

Re: Advise ?
How do these compare in ride height to the early springs. Do they make the car lower.
