I was wondering if anyone could help me with the removal of a few parts.
1) The front bumper shocks seem streight foward. Is their anything to look out for when I start unbolting these? Looks like they have been on there from the factory.
2) The rear bumper shocks ? How do they come off?
3) the chrome stripping arround the doors. I'm talking about the actual chrome strip at the top of the door.
After those are taken off, she's ready for paint and body work.

Re: Parts removal.
the shocks are held on with a bolt, the left rear requires gas tank removal. The stainless strips at the top of the door just pull up
Re: Parts removal.
Ahh, Figures, I started with the left rear . I guess I need to pull a bit harder on those chrome strips. The ones in the back came off quite easilly. So Cal Mark wrote: the left rear requires gas tank removal. The stainless strips at the top of the door just pull up
So, what should I look out for when removing the gas tank. I've never done this. Yet, the PO installed a brand new one for me. HE HE.

Well ..after draining the tank, disconect the filler hose at the bottom. That is a good place to drain the tank from anyway. There are 4- 13 mm nuts along the lip of the tank that hold the tank in place. You'll find a thin strip of foam type padding, that usually gets torn and I replace with weather stripping when putting the tank back. Disconect the fuel lines return lines ect. and lift.

Thanks Narfire. I have my work cut out for me but it does not seem to be too difficult. I think I will siphon the gas out as much as possible first - crap, I just put a half tank in her too.
Re: Parts removal.
While tank is out you may want to think about flushing it really good and than changing fuel filter.

I've been thinking about pulling the tank as well.
What do you flush it with? I would imagine water wouldn't be a good thing to leave in the tank for a lot of reasons.

Re: Parts removal.
There are kits out there that will clean the tank and then line it with some kind of toxic chemical. Here the cost is around $60.00 and is a 3 part process. If it is rusty and there is flaking on the inside, Check to make sure there are no pin holes but I used small pebbles and washed those around in the tank to see if that would bash any loose stuff off. Compressed air and a heated shop over night pretty much dried it out and then did the 3 part thing. No issues after 6 years.

Re: gas tank removal
I am in the process of putting back the bumpers and I would like to know how you would drain the gas tank before removal.narfire wrote:Well ..after draining the tank, disconect the filler hose at the bottom. Thanks in advance
