Removing a Door Panel
I have to replace the window regulator on the driver side of my '69 124 spider. How do you remove the door panel once the window and door cranks are removed? Anything I need to look out for?

Re: Removing a Door Panel
You have to remove the arm rest and then just remove the screws around the bottom edge. It comes off easily so if it seems stuck in the middle, you still have a screw in it somewhere.

Re: Removing a Door Panel
once the arm rest is removed (3 screws) then you can have hidden clips around the outside. this will just pull out with a quick pull of the edge of the panel. the entire panel hooks to the top of the door, so just has to be lifted to remove. make sure you replace the plastic covering the door holes. This is a moisture barrier so your inside panels wont warp.

Thanks. Not quite as easy as my MGB but sounds like no problem.

Re: Removing a Door Panel
Is there any trick to getting the clip under the window handle off? My arm rests and door panels are coming off this Winter for a full door cosmetic refurb. Have never taken apart one of these doors. Pete.

Re: Removing a Door Panel
i take a coat hangger and cut it to 10 inches
put a 90 bend at the end then cut it real short so 2 or 3 mm is sticking out
the other end needs to be a handle so bend it about 3 inches same direction as the first bend
slide the small hook under the back rear side of window handle to hook the clip and pull then pull the handle straight out
just dont loose the clip
then put the clip back on the handle
roll down the other window to see where the handle stops
having the first window down, match the position of handle and push it on in place

Re: Removing a Door Panel
There is a tool that you can use to remove the horse-shoe clip that wont damage the window crank shroud.
Cheap, quick and veeery effective.

Re: Removing a Door Panel
So the clip is a standard "Circlip" or "C" clip. Excellent info from you both. Thanks. Pete.

Re: Removing a Door Panel
That tool is probably the best 8 bucks I ever spent (well there was that theatre ticket with the blonde back in HS, but I digress) it came in today and works like a charm. Had both door panels completely off in about 5-10 minutes. Highly recommended addition to the tool box.
