Hello all,
I purchased a 78 Spider 5 years ago that was used pretty hard by a former owner out of the Salt Lake area. He was incarcerated for drug dealing and the car was in Federal impound for over 5 years when I bought it. He (or she) just drove it giving it very little maintenance. I had the local Fiat mechanic do what he found and deemed necessary for me to drive it back to San Diego. It barely made it home. I worked on it dilligently over the last 5 years fixing worn out parts and did maintenance to the car as needed, however, the motor was tired. The previous owner obviously just drove it and did little to maintain it. After 30+ years, a lot of parts needed replacing.
In 1977, I was working for a Fiat/Lancia dealership here in San Diego and bought a beautiful Spider right off of the truck. It was Ivory/cream with a red interior. My brother wrecked that car and I finally decided to get me another Spider, hence this one. This spider is red exterior with a tan interior and has the Chromodora 5 spoke "Scorpion" wheels, which I was told were fairly rare. They are in good shape and I repainted them with a good Urethane Silver so they look new with no damage.
I have the car's drivetrain (except for the rear end) out, cleaned up and am addressing any and all issues that need attention.
While I have the car apart, I was toying with the idea of doing a color change (to ivory) and going with the red interior. I was wondering where I can find the original paint number for the ivory and if there are any suppliers for the red vinyl for re-upholstering the seats. If I get the vinyl, I can (hopefully) dye the door pannels to match the red vinyl.
I have a sample of the red "corn row" carpeting and was wondering if there is a source for the carpet that I can procure? I am told that this is a hard carpet to find but I am determined to do the color change. Any help in locating the carpet or the original color red vinyl will be much appreciated. You can email me directly at rklockent@sbcglobal.net if you have any information in my quest. Thanks. Randy

I have a Dupont color sheet for 1981 Fiats. I suspect (but don't guarantee) the 79 is the same.
The Dupont sheet lists a "Safari Ivory" for Spiders that is a Mfg code of 285 and a DuPont code of 44042.
Hope that helps a little.

i found cornrow at menards
grey and black
you can paint the grey to red with carpet paint
but have to cut and bind it yourself or have it out sourced

Their German carpets are nice, but their cheaper line is, well, cheap....baltobernie wrote:http://worlduph.com/samples/carpetsquare.htm I used their charcoal. They'll make you a Spider set if you want.
