Spring Seat Question

Post by drovak »

Hi guys,

I'm working on replacing the shocks and springs in my '76, but I have a few questions. I removed the cut springs and yellow Koni shocks from the rear. The springs look pretty good, but the shocks were completely shot. I ordered some new springs and shocks, but when I asked about the plastic seats for the springs, the guy from Vick Autosports said I didn't need them. Can I seriously have metal springs against the metal body?

If not, I will need a new set probably for the entire car from the looks of it. Does anyone have a decent set?

Also, I noticed that the old springs had some rubber hose around either end. Is this a common thing?

Thanks!

On the rear axle the plastic spring seats should be blue and grey, I can't remember which side is witch. Were they there when your removed the springs? Or did the cut end of the spring chew them up? The section of hose on the end of the spring was likely installed to prevent that.

If the springs were good, why order another set?

I should have a set of the spring seats if you need them. matt.scarton@gmail.com

Yeah, the cut ends really chewed them up. I only have three pieces remaining.

Here are some shots of the springs/shocks:

Those shocks look pretty bad, eh? I ordered some new springs because the ride height was quite a bit off, and I assumed it had to be springs. The left side was about two inches higher than the right. I read somewhere (probably on this forum) that the right side should actually be 1 in. higher than the left to compensate for the engine torquing. The bad shocks shouldn't affect the ride height that much, right? Anyways, I am looking at getting new wheels anyways, so having it back up high should let me choose some larger wheels. The car was literally scraping every speed bump I went over, even at .001 mph!!

And you're about to have email! :)

The gray goes on the right. They can only go one way.
