Let us go amongest them!

Post by NJFIAT1981 »

It was the night of the 24th on a rural part of Route 524 in Monmouth County, NJ. The stars were shining and the weather was cool and crisp. A perfect night for a spirited drive in the wifes spider. I was returning home from a parts swap at our usual coffee/breakfast spot. Everything was going great and then.......A flurry of brown from off to my right, the squealing of tires as I mashed down the brake and clutch pedal and two almost simultaneous thuds. (Not the sickening deep thud that a 80 mph deer strike makes and is accompanied by $4400.00 in damage) (Don't ask me how I know this)
I had driven into a gaggle of deer. They were everywhere. One actually jumped over the passenger compartment. I didn't know they could jump that high. My shorts will never be the same!
A check on the road found not only no deer but no damage to the wifes Fiat. Whew! Skated on that one. :D

lucky guy! I've seen the damage a deer can do. I had a similar experience years ago when a deer jumped from a bank and cleared our car while we were traveling 70mph

Many years ago a deer jumped in front of my VW Rabbit (78 4 spd). Caved in the hood. The rad was parallel to the road, right side of the car was totaled, pas. door could'nt be opened. Damb car still ran though, slight shimmy at 120 kms/hr. Insurance wrote it off as it had 300,000 kms. Amazing little car that was.
Scary to think a deer vs spider at 100 kms/hr.

My deer count for last year was two.I had one jump out of a cornfield and I nailed him with my F150.Nice 6 point buck! The truck suffered minor fender damage...the deer sustained fatal injuries :D A heighbor helped me drag him off the road, and I got a ham, backstrap, and $200 bill from State Farm for my deductible.
A couple months later,I bagged a doe with my Harley!!!Riding slowly(thank God) thru town, she jumped from some trees right into my path.I thought I had her missed, but she turned back towards me.Made contact and I was high sided off the bike.Me and the bike slid down the hill. When I stopped ,I looked back to see the deer get up,brush herself off, wave, and walk away.Bitch!!! No damage to me,$2000 dollars worth to my bike.
Here, like most of the country, the overpopulation of deer has become a true hazard to drivers.

We don't get many dear here in Spain, but my neighbour totaled his BMW when he hit a wild boar. Messy! He was doing about 70mph at the time. Very messy

Could have been much, much worse. A number of years ago, one of my dad's friends was killed when he hit a deer and it went through the windshield.

You are very lucky! A friend at work came in one day all cut up - a deer tried to jump the hood and came through the windshield feet first. The corner post caught it in the middle and saved him from having a deer in his lap! As it was, he had a black eye and sliced up cheek.

I've had 3 near misses lately. One with the Fiat. I am paranoid of driving at dusk, even in town.

Whew! That's very fortunate. I hit Bambi's mom at 55 mph in my Escort. The doe was dead and the car was totaled.

Like HFK,I tiptoe around at dusk no matter what I am driving.I watch the side of the road as much as the middle.I had one jump in front of the Fiat in the middle of the day recently.A deer vs. Fiat incident could have a very, very bad ending for all

My average is $7000 one time at 90MPH and the other time 30MPH. I never stop for both of them but i suppose the one at 90MPH was sliced in filet

Kangaroos are what concerns me when driving at night, they can bounce out of anywhere. I remember going for a ride on my Ducati one night, after counting several dozen roos in a couple of KMs, I decided to turn around and go home. And Wombats are like walking rocks, they'll rip the undercarriage out of a car.

Cheers,

Mick.

Has anyone else enjoyed the rather distinct odor of a skunk that has been struck while riding in your spider?
