Since I'm bringing one back from the dead, I was wondering if anyone had a checklist/order list for restoration. Things to replace immediately, whether to paint the saloon/trunk/engine compartment first or last or what. I'm sure everyone has different opinions, but I'd love to hear them.

I just looked at your blog and noticed that you need 175/70 13 tires. Your rims are 14" in case you did not know and you could get some 185/60 14 Sumitomos for them at

Maybe they are not stock. He checked the side of the tires which are Pirellis and they were 13s... I'll double check now.

I posted all the things I did. I also posted mistakes made along the way. Hopefully most of the pics are still there.

If you want to enjoy the car. Do a rolling restoration. It's been a couple years working on mine. I'm just getting the engine in soon. It's a long process that takes a lot of money. You should try to save anything possible. Don't try to save any rubber like hoses, drive shaft flex joint, belts, etc... You can keep the rubber seals if they are good like the window trim, weather strip, or engine compartment moldings. If you have a good compressor like an 80 gal one, buy a cheap media blaster. It will take all the surface rust off and help you clean up most of the parts. Harbor Freight sells one. Don't buy their media. You can get a 40 or 50 lb bad for $10 from elsewhere. If you have questions and want my advise, just post it. Were all watching.

Thanks for the info. I'll go check out your gallery in a bit. I two different media blasters. I don't think any of them a big enough to do the whole car even with a large tank. I will use it to go after my few rust spots. It will be a rolling restoration. But he tore everything out, so it will be a while before it rolls anywhere on its own. Hopefully putting tires on it tomorrow if they are the right size!

I did mine with a 10 gal media tank.

azygoustoyou Just checked out your thread. Very cool. I'm not going that hard core. I'd like to, but I'm a stay at home dad with four kids and my wife would kill me if I started building giant car holders and sat out in front of my one car garage media blasting. Ha!!

You know, Overhaulin' would have finished that in seven days. What's taking so long?

I want to work on it with everything attached. I wish I could do more on the bottom, but I can't. However. I have lots of extra suspension, like the rear end and the ball joints and stuff. So I may media blast those, paint them and replace.

I'd really love a list of your paint plan. Like the zinc etc... I do want to do a good job painting. And the thing is almost completely apart from a top standpoint.

I have access to that same sand blaster. I don't know that I want to do the whole exterior with that. Definitely parts and spots... but... well... I guess you did your whole car with that right!? But you had your massive tank for a good portion. Do I really want to wait to buy a big one? My father in law and brother in law both have HUGE tanks. But they are VERY far away. Boooooooo

There will be lots of pictures. I'm an artsy fartsy type and have a really nice SLR camera. Expect piles of photos on my blog.

I used a 33 gal from Sears. I did wear it out. Then purchased my 80 gallon one. It keeps up. I didn't do the whole outside. Just where needed. I did do the whole trunk and hood and all of the inner parts.
