This is not for those who insist on originality or studio quality sound, but:
For my 1981 Fiat Spider, I took a chance on this Dual XR4110 AM/FM USB/SD Mechless radio (no CD Player, but plays Mp3 or wma files from either SD or USB (16GB max.). I also ordered a pair of 5.25" Pyramid speakers. The speakers even come with wires, connectors, and built in grille, and the radio comes with detailed manual and special tools needed to install. Amazon's database listed this radio as NOT fitting this Spider, but that is because the console opening is not quite DIN 1 standard - one pass across the bottom of the console opening with a metal nibbler and it fits fine. The speakers fit fine with no mods and look great. The radio is only about 4" deep, so does not interfere with other wiring in the console. Not High End but produces plenty of volume and lets you forget CDs. Read the Amazon reviews to decide if it will work for you. (I did not experience the memory loss issues, and expect some of those who did simply failed to ID an "Always On" voltage source.)

In this video: http://youtu.be/oZ90lfOD_QI, you can compare the volume of my speech with the radio - remember I am talking directly into the camera mic - the radio speakers are about 8' away from that mic.

Re: High Tech Radio & Speakers for $50!
Here is how to figure it: It requires a DIN 1 standard opening. There is no depth limit for DIN. DIN stands for Deutsche Institut fur Normung. It's a 7.2" WW X 2.11 H" opening. If you have a console opening you can enlarge (or reduce) to that size, and have about 5" depth for the radio and connectors, it should fit. However, I understand that putting 5.25" speakers in the earlier Spiders requires other modifications. i saw something about that on another thread here, so you might search for those posts before buying speakers.
