Recovering door panel ?

Post by akavinn1 »

My drivers side door panel on my 75 is torn on top and not sure if I should just repair the top , buy a new door panel or recover the whole thing in vinyle or leather ? It's been a real pain trying to find a used black one .

I recovered mine. It looks a bit more plain but a very cheap and easy thing to do. There are some rivets to drill out for the window felt and I used a stapler/glue to secure the rest. Easy peasy

Here's a pic. I did not remove the old covering just covered over it. The one issue I have is you have to watch because the wing window rubs now.

On my 81 the panel is in two bits. I would just remove chrome trim then the four clips and cover the top bit in cheap black vinyl available from most fabric shops. Do both sides so they look fresh and balanced. Contact cement takes care of adhesion.

Yea the 81 is 2 panels but the early ones are 1 so I figure rather then do vinyl and the replacements are so over priced !! I am using the black leather
