Is it worth parting this car?

Post by dom »

I may be buying a 69 spider. The car has sat for 10 yrs. I was told engine and tranny were good when it was parked. The floors are rotted. I think it may be a parts car. I was wondering how much various parts go for so i have an idea if the car is worth buying if it turns out as a parts car.
I think it has Cromodora CD3 wheels with hubcaps. Are they worth much?
I believe the doors, hood, trunk are mostly rust free. Is there a market for them?
Some interior trim is good such as door panels
The chrome bumpers are good and the front has two holes in it, one on either side. I dont think they are original.
The fenders are not original and they are fiberglass.
Lights look good and so does windshield and trim.
Roof has some small tears.

I guess I want to know the value of these parts if the car has taken its last breath.
Also if the floors are rotted does that mean the car is structurally unsafe or are there other more important sections of the underside (eg. rockers) which are more important structurally.
Thanks

Offer $400 just to keep it from the crusher.

two reasons yes
1. I made almost $1000 of a car and got 2 pieces that I needed that would have cost me about $650 new. plus bag and tag every piece where it came from easier to sell if you know where it came from and someone post they need it. plus you never know when you will need a wire connector or something else nice to have a few spare parts laying around.

Thanks guys, I will try to get it. Maybe its a diamond in the ruff and the rust underneath is not everywhere and I can bring it back to life....ha ha i doubt that but I guess i can't go wrong if the price is right.

This is a 1969 spider that is too far gone for restoration. The chassis is rusted in many places, its going to be a parts car. I am looking for a shell from a early spider in the Toronto area

For the moment I plan to strip the car and keep all the parts. I don't want to sell anything until i pick up another car since I may regret selling stuff. The car sat idle for 10yrs but before it was put away in its moist shelter the engine and tranny were good. The engine is a 1608 #125BC040148325 with dual webers with the fiat waffle intake manifold, the head is #124AC S62 4198994. The engine will not turn over but the fluids look good. Because it was stored in a leaky container it stayed moist. Unprotected metal. especially in the engine bay, got real rusty. I hope the motor did not rust internally.

its a shame its too far gone for a resto project, I also have a 69 that has some severe rot issues, although Im intending on fixing it up. Mine was parked up for 24years outside, although I guess being in Texas has saved it from the worst of the rot. the floor on mine is totally gone and I can fully get both feet out of the hole under the pedals

and I just used some wiring from the car I parted out to fix my car. so save every piece you can ! even the hubs and spindles if they are good, I needed one last week and thinkfully I keep both. but didnt keep any of the rear end peices and I have stripped out lug bolt holes on both rear wheels. I could have made even more money but needed the car out of the wife's eye site so had to send it on its way
