front brake hose rub

Post by puddin »

just replaced a front caliper on my 78 and tightened the brake hose -- turned tires left then right and noticed that if the tire is turned all the way the rubber hose rubs the wheel-- also noticed the wheel rubs the sway bar if turned all the way the opposite direction.. i tried to route the brake hose in a better position but it seems like it will either rub the tire or hit the coil spring.

is this normal? i guess with the car on the ground and with manual sterring the tire wouldn't be allowed to turn that far-still seems not good-- i have had these brake hoses on her for 6 months and haven't seen any wear or rub marks on the hoses so i guess turning the wheels while driving limits the ability to turn the wheels that sharp..

anybody else seen this problem??

Do you have stock rims on the car? Aftemarket rims with the wrong offset can cause the rubbing you describe. The front brake hoses have an angled fitting at the banjo bolt and should be oriented with the hose angled up when installed. With the wheel/hub in the straight ahead position the hose should be perpendicular to the car.

stock 13" wheels and hose angled up = it seems like the hoses i received are a bit too long== with wheels straight ahead the hose is shaped like a "S".. i guess i just wont turn the wheel to extreme turns which i really can't nor need to do with manual sterring and short wheelbase. just wanted to throw this out there to remind folks to keep an eye out for the rubbing to possibly cut the hose.

The good thing is that you already havea stock 13" rims. I never thought that it will cause such problems. I'll also keep an eye on the rubbing that possibly cut the hose.
