Fuel Pump Question

Hi Guys,

This is really racking my brain I've gotten a new fuel pump for my car and My friend removed the old one before I had the chance to see where all the lines were going. I've taken pictures of the problem and before I install it I want to make sure I'm doing it correctly. If you could let me know what is the plastic piece that is attached to the body thats cracked off (first pic) and what is the canister over the wheel is (2nd pic) and which is the inlet and outlet of the fuel pump.

I'm sorry to tell you, Marcus, "that plastic piece" which has broken off is a one-way valve that allows outside air in to the fuel tank to replace consumed fuel. If yours is broken or missing, your evaporative emissions controls will not work. Unfortunately, this part is no longer available. You'll have to find one from salvage, or modify your fuel system to do without this valve. Let us know which path you decide, and we'll give you detailed instructions. Is your Spider subject to periodic safety or emissions inspections?

I may have that piece from a 76 spider. I'll check tonight.

The supply line for the pump is the large diameter hose comming from the top of the fuel tank. The other side of the pump will be hooked up to a rubber fuel line that passes through the sheet metal behind the fuel tank.

No emissions thank god! Can I bypass that? I've never looked at the piece before but when I had a look at where the fuel pump is supposed to be and noticed it broken.

The "quick & dirty" way is to drill a tiny hole in the gas cap. Then have only the supply line from the tank go to the fuel pump and onward to the carb. The return line from the carb attaches to the fuel tank return. Remove and plug all other canister and separator lines. Don't forget to cap the intake manifold vacuum source to the engine canister.
