In the immediate future, we plan on removing all the floor insulation and putting down a layer or POR15 across the entire floor, followed of course by new insulation/sound deadening and a new carpet set. Anyhow, does anyone know what size can (pint, quart, or gallon) of POR15 we will need to purchase in order to coat the whole floor sufficiently? We are thinking the quart size, but we haven't been able to find a finite answer through the search feature, so we're are hoping someone can help us out. Thanks!

The quart would be enough to do the floor, doors, and some.

With POR-15 a little goes a long way. I used it last on my buddy Bug. We had a Qt and had some left over after doing the complete floor pan top and bottom, fender lining, inside the body and many other area. It goes on very thin almost like water. Very good product.

We used a little more than one quart to cover both the top and bottom of an open 18' car hauler last year, so one should definitely be enough. Wear long sleevs and long pants that you don't care about, because you will get splattered and it doesn't wash out. If you get it on your skin, nothing takes it out except time - about 2 weeks!

How do you apply it? Is it thin enough to use the paint gun? I might be attempting a 72 later this year.

You can use a 3-4" roller for speed (and splatter ) and a brush for the corners and tight spots. If you have a disposable spray gun and plan to do it in a deserted field, go ahead! LOLOL

Use the regular stuff.

If you're not familiar with the product, POR-15 uses the moisture in the ambient air to cure the paint. So it is imperative that you pour out of the can only what you can use within the next hour or so, and you can't dump the remainder back into the original can. Any POR-15 on the lid or in the groove of the can will seal the can permanently.

What I do is take a fresh pint of the stuff and portion it into a dozen baby food jars. An ounce or two will cover about one square foot; if I need more, I open another jar. Remnants in the jar get tossed. Also use disposable brushes, and be sure and cover any skin you don't want painted; the stuff is virtually non-removable.

What kind of prep needs to be done to the metal you are about to treat? Does it need to be bare, clean metal? I have an enclosed trailer I need to treat. Do you paint over it or is it durable enough to withstand the elements?

Treat it like you would for Tremclad. Wire brush the loose stuff, vacuum thoroughly and have at it. It doesn't need a top coat, but it wouldn't hurt to use a second coat and/or some other paint for an exposed trailer.

Requires a topcoat if the surface will be exposed to sunlight. The POR-15 website has complete info.

I would recommend at least hot water and detergent or petroleum-based paint prep on sound surfaces. Any rusty metal should be treated with their acid solution beforehand.

Not to keep harping on Eastwood, but they have a similar product that is supposed to be better than the POR-15. Check their website and do the POR 15 search they have posted the results of both products quite well.
