Opinions for lowering.

Post by kensmith »

I want to lower my 1978 Spider around 2" in the rear and 1" in the front. My thoughts are to cut the rear coils 2" and front 1". That should drop the rear maybe 2 1/2" and front 1 1/2" at most. Then take the car in for an alignment. Any suggestions or thoughts? I'm not doing it for racing or cornering, just to lower the stance. I will also replace the shocks at all 4 corners. I did notice the exhaust hangs kind of low, may have to figure that out? It's a Calif car with cat so need to be careful.

Remember the car will sit lower yet with one in and even more with passenger as well.
Perhaps just try 1 coil rear and half front first, then put some weight in the car,go for a drive ect. and see what you think.
These are stock springs? Replace shocks with the KYB G-2's?

Cutting the springs
I had read that post and will read it again. I'm going to take some under car measurements with 2 people in the car before I do anything. Last thing I want to do is lower it too much and worry about speed bumps etc. Thanks

If you decide you cut too much off. I have two sets of stock springs at stock height just waiting for a home. Just PM me.
