Replacement con rod bolts

Post by scampbel98 »

Hi there gang,
Just curious.. When I rebuild my Fords, Chevy's and Dodge's, I usually use new ARP head and rod bolts.
That's a little tough with the Fiat 124. What are you guys doing for piece of mind (read replacements) for 1756 or 1995cc motors for rod bolts?

I know ARP was available at some point, but we need to check with the Fiat racers to see what they're using. I''ll email one and see what he says. Definitely change them, though. They do stretch.

it looks like ARP 203-6001 may be viable replacements. Toyota 4AGE for a 1.6/1.8L M9 bolts... shape looks right too..
I'm very curious

The 4AG main cap studs are a perfect replacecement for the early engines, late engines are larger dia. It would be nice to come up with a part number for the rods.
Here's a link to the main studs, fit 1438 and 1608 I think:

Got an answer from Jim:

For rod bolts, I only know of a replacement for the 1.8L motor. ARP P/N 154-6003 (or any other rod bolt for a Ford 351 Cleveland), but you will need to hone the rods a few thou to achieve a proper interference fit. These bolts can be pressed in without honing, but I don't recommend it. I don't have anything for the 1608, and the 2.0L bolts are already strong enough and can be reused may times.

When we rebuilt this last 1608, we used Vick's rod bolts. I believe they are Fiat original, but you cannot reuse them. They stretch.
