I would be more than happy to do so if you are interested in going "all the way".

I just accomplished this task myself this fall. i require pictures of your car, however. i need to see the patient.

is this to be a california car? if so, i cannot assist.

lemme know.

if the car is going to be registered in Calif, everything has to remain intact and functioning :?

smog stuff

Post by manoa matt »

Hey guys,

I live in Hawaii where there are no pollution regulations what so ever.
I am in the process of restoring the engine on my 78 spider, and would like to remove anything that will rob some performance. I've already removed the air pump and pluged the 4 air ports on top of the head. I'm about to buy all new hoses and before I do i would like to know what vacume lines and etc. I can eliminate before I overbuy on hoses. However, I don't plan on living in Hawaii for a long time( 3-5 years), but I plan on having my spider longer. So I don't want to do anything permenant or that can't be put back on. I'll post some pictures of my engine and carb with little numbers or labels on each port or hose so it will be easier to identify what's what.

thanks

matt

Drag racing a Fiat? That's curious.

if it's going to be a drag only car, I'd remove everything; air pump and attaching parts, egr, catalytic converter and evap canister. Lighten the car as much as possible
You may find the rear axle won't stand up to the demands of drag racing, even with a stock motor

There may be a tech article at mirafiori.com, but I'd suggest investing in a Haynes or Chilton manual. Basically if it's a race only car, you'll want to remove anything not essential.
