I'am just about ready to purchase megasquirt for my 2.0 FI spider. Have any of you guys already done this? I have been reading everything related to a spider install I can find. Two good reads are:
http://basilisk.chaosnet.org/megasquirt ... pider.html
http://www.alfagtv6.com/MegaSquirt/Megasquirt.htm
The second is an Alfa, but I plan to use the L-jet case as they did. As both of these read I will need to buy additional parts (flyback boards for the fiat injectors,TPS, resistors, diodes, ect) does any one have a list of necessary parts other than the MSII kit and stimulator kit, also If any one has a running tune program to share so I don't have to tune from scratch.
Megasquirt additional parts needed?
Re: Megasquirt additional parts needed?
Can you provide more information as to what you're doing in the conversion?.. like are you going crank fired? still using the distributor? Are you going to run Alpha-N, MAP vs RPM? There are plenty of options!
Re: Megasquirt additional parts needed?
Jason I was thinking of megasquirt. Do you have any options for the TPS? I was planning on using the stock FI Distributor, FI manifold and injectors.
Thanks,
Ralph

Re: Megasquirt additional parts needed?
I'am looking at map vs rpm and probably no TPS using the stock distributer and stock injectors for the initial install, once I get it up and running well, I'll research the planed mods. I have a turbo waiting, but think I should get a decent base tune on the stock motor first. So in short I'am looking at the easiest way to megasquirt a bone stock EFI spider.
PS I have now ordered the MSII kit, JimStim, and USB/serial adapter nothing else .

Ralph:
For the most basic setup (MAPdot) you don't need the TPS at all. You can use it to help with accel/decel enrichment but it is definitely not necessary. Alpha-N (TPSdot) works well on ITBs. At this time I have only used BMW TPS units and do not have a direct swap for the Fiat throttle body. I was thinking about coming up with something but never had anyone ask for it..
BDR:
As for what else you'll need, definitely order the flyback board to use with the injectors. This is necessary because they are low impedance instead of high impedance which is what more modern injectors are. This means it takes more current to open them and will burn up your injector drivers. The flyback board solution fixes this.
You'll also need a circuit to power the fuel pump. I've always built my own relay circuit in the past but it looks like the GTV6 guy came across a good solution to use the already existing circuit.
Oh and you need some vacuum hose to connect the MAP sensor to the intake manifold.
I've never tuned a car without WBO2, so I think you might be on your own there..

Re: Megasquirt additional parts needed?
Looks like I might be OK. I do have a innovate wideband already installed, and the listing on diyautotune.com says the PCBv3.0 does not need the flyback board add on. Still lots to learn just hoping I can get it to run after the initial install. Once I have it running on megasquirt I should be fine.
Re: Megasquirt additional parts needed?
looking forward to your results. if you could, when you get it up and running do you think you could make a full writeup for the rest of us? I have a spare engine laying around and a megasquirt setup looks like a great idea.
