Painting calipers

Post by Specialk »

In doing my front end rebuild, I'm debating on whether or not I should paint my calipers red. These are the standard OEM brakes and while I like the look of the red parts on high performance vehicules, is it too "wanna be" on our cars??? I'd enjoy reading your views......

Debating whether to do the same thing. I don't think its too "wanna be", just makes them look nicer and stand out. :D

Its your car, do what you want and what makes you happy. Just don't paint the surfaces where the wedges slide.

Did them to my first brakes and they looked nice between the wheels.

Took out the paint with a quick sander on my last brake job. With or without they look nice.

Would powder coating work better than paint on a caliper?

A little "Bling" never hurt anyone! I wish I would of painted mine the last time I had them off. Powder coating is probably the bast way to go but will cost you more than painting them. The caliper paint is pretty tough and it's cheaper.

I can't wait to get my pizza oven going so I can powder coat. Should be soon.

You may as well sell pizzas out of it, too, to pay for all your equipment

I painted the calipers on my 3000gt a month or so ago. I think it looks really cool, nothing too flashy, but just kinda makes the car look more sporty overall.

I used this kit, worked really well, lots of colors to choose from, and everything is included that you could possibly need, highly recommended. Looks great.

Would you like yours with extra sway bar?

I used caliper spray on my F-150 and it's holding up really good. Even through the winter.

I was thinking about polishing my calipers and then spraying them with a high temp clear coat like VHT. Has anyone polished their calipers? How do they look?

I bet they would polish up nicely.

I spent about 5 min with a wire wheel on mine and they turned out looking good. I plan on polishing them when I do my brake lines and caliper rebuilds.

Think the painted calipers will look great. I have been thingking about it as well. It also depends on what wheels you have. No point in painting the calipers if you are runnings some of the OEM wheels for most years. I like the idea nad it can only improve the look. I imagine a nice pain job with some performance rotors and the right set of wheels/tires would improve the overall look of the car greatly.

I would appreciate it if you could post a pic when you get them done.

Thanks.
