Was it an option when ordering a Fiat/Pininfarina to get either canvas or vinyl for the convertible top? If it was an option, how can it be determined what was the original material? The top on my '83 Pinin is a replacement and I would love to find out how it came from the factory.

I spoke with our local shop who has been around forever. He used to install and repair damaged tops for the local Fiat Dealer. He advised me that they all came with vinyl tops. He seemed to know what he was talking about. That's the info he gave me. He does install a really nice top. :D George

Sure must be nice to have someone local for your questions to be answered! Most people around me have never even SEEN a Spider let alone someone actually having worked on one. I have since read elsewhere that the Fiat/Pinin's were all built with vinyl tops so I will be ordering one very soon. Any recomendations/warnings on companies selling them? The one to be replaced was made by Robbins Car Tops out of Calif. I'm sort of leaning towards them but have not seen their prices as of yet.

I purchased my 1969 124 when it was 8mo. old. It came with a canvas top. I am in the process of replacing the vinyl that I put on awhile back with the canvas. I always liked that old canvas top.

Well poo!! I really wanted to put a rag top on my '80 but I still want to keep it as stock as I can. It's got a newer vinyl top but I'm not pleased with the quality.

I just had a Robbins vinyl top installed and it fits and looks great. Very happy with it.

I also replaced my top with a vinyl Robbins top. Looks very nice and done just in time for the inclimate weather just around the corner. Thanks to all for your input!
