double Weber 40

Post by FMO »

Hi!

I have bought a couple of double Weber 40 IDF , complete with intake manifold. Is there any point to install these webers in my 1800 Spider ( with a Weber 34 DMSA) without doing anything else?
What kind of performance will I achive with these carburators?

Regards

You can install them on a stock engine and notice a good power
increase across the RPM range as long as they are jetted right .

Mike, once you get them synchronized and tuned, they don't need much to keep them tuned. They are very sensitive to dirt, though.

Maybe your engine has a better camshaft profile than the US imports had. Do you have a cataletic converter? Do you have a 4-2-1 exhaust header? Do you have emission testing? It sounds like a fun project, but it will only leave you wanting more! You might consider finding a good Mechanic to help get carb jetted properly, ask WebberCarbs.com what they recommend? Hi!

I have imported my Spider from the states ( Steven Walker in Arizona ), but all the smog emission is gone, no catalytic converter.

This is done by Steven : I started with a 1974175 block that was rebuilt by Norwalk domed pistons, polished crankshaft with new bearings, including the clutch pilot. New oil seals and all cover gaskets. New motor mounts, oil pump, pan gasket, light and pressure sensor switches and factory orig. oil filter. Since it became smog exempt I wanted to do away with the ugly smog ports in the head and the cam covers so a 2L head was pressure tested and remanufactured by Headmasters in Fullerton. It was surfaced .050 to bring the compression up a bit, new valves, springs and guides. New water temp sensors were installed. Cam towers were surfaced and of course all new oil seals and gaskets installed. A black ceramic coated 4-2-1 exhaust manifold was attached along with a remanufactured starter and a rewound 60 amp alternator. New spark plug wires and a remanufactured electronic distributor added. New timing belt, tensioner bearing and water pump...

I am planning to put in some other cams + these webers, But I don`t know how much exstra power this would give, or if it is worth it.
Sorry about my bad english

From my experience, I would guess about 10 -15 more hp by changing the 34 dmsa to the 40 idfs. I have no scientific evidence, just the butt dyno, but my 72 had the 34 dmsa and it had decent power for bottom end but wasn't so impressive on the top end. I then bought a 71, bone stock except the 40 idfs and noticed better performance all the way through the power band, especially the top end. I have since rebuilt the 72 with bigger cams and 40 idfs and the difference is unbelievable compared to stock with idfs. I say go for it!

If you install performance cams your looking at more then 15hp
with the IDFs depends on the Cams might be closer to 30 to 40
HP you'll like the improvement .

 Actually I bought a pair of double Solex 40 PII-6, with manifold and turtleback aircleaner, not double Weber 40 IDF.
A friend of me wants to sell me a pair of NOS Fiat 2000 racinf cams, they are marked : 2000R ! Does anybody know something about these cams, and if they will fit to my 1800 SPider?

I believe weber links will fit i think they used the same size shafts
it's been a long time since i've even seen a pair of Solex carbies .

I used weber links on my Mikuni carbs years ago but i had to file
out the holes for them to fit .

Solex uses many of the same parts as weber sorry i don't have
answer thats 100% .
