Throttle Body Intake Manifold

Post by So Cal Mark »

Not trying to sell these, just wanted to show some pics of a new intake manifold we did for a customer. He's using Peavy throttle bodies. They have the same mounting flange as a DCOE. The intake has a 22 degree angle from vertical so the tb's will clear the brake booster and still have room for an air cleaner

Is throttlebody injection such a good idea? I thought it was a stopgap measure that they used before everyone converted their tooling over.

individual throttle bodys, one butterfly per cylinder, one injector per cylinder, infinatly programable injection, no restrictive air flow meters, etc

nice, so I guess it's only throttle body injection in name. I missed the ITB part. When I hear throttle body injection I think oh an old ford with the fuel half of the carb ripped off and an injector bolted on. I bet that setup sounds like the end of the world a WOT.

You mean Chevy, Ford had the individual injection type. Chevy finally converted with the VORTEC series.

yes ITB's are incredible. offer a better volumetric efficiency as compared to the plenum setup. my guess is that they minimize head loss of intake air because the intake path is shorter and more direct(less turbulence). plus you get the cool factor of having ITBs that look just like dual side-draft carbs. not to mention programmable fuel injection.

yeah, I understand that ITBs with forced induction is difficult? I remember hearing guys talking about this on their hondas and someone said that ITBs and turbos don't mix.

yea well you could imagine the piping alone would be interesting. but if you have a turbo... you dont need ITB's because you are cramming air in the intake so it really doesnt matter.

good point. The combined sound of turbo and itbs would be glorious though. It would be similar to a turbo carb engine, except better in every other way.

Seems funny that the air-cooled vw guys can run idfs and have them work fine. Not to sure about the honda guy's but maybe just a little bit beyond there ability?
