Vinyl Soft Top Installation - Solved, thank you!!

Post by mPedro08 »

I have a new vinyl softop the PO partially installed. Everything but the gluing and anchoring the cables is done. I was able to glue the internal ribs of the roof, that was a no brainer, but I'm a bit stuck on how to glue and possible trim around the rear glass, back rib. It is the place where the velcro goes onto the window. There is a flap of vinyl and some of the material which stops the rain for the front window but it all seems out of whack and I'm sure some of it is supposed to be glued...have no instructions....

Anyone??

Thanks!!

This is where I'm not sure what to do, it looks like you're supposed to wrap it but it doesn't exactly fit (too long, or doesn't curve like the bar).

Hi,

When I fitted my vinyl roof on my 69 I had tabs on my roof above the rear quarter lights like you have shown. I just tucked mine behind the rack. I think these tabs are to act as extra padding / strengthening to the top to prevent tearing on the corners.

You have probably already done this, the tabs that run across the width of the car need folding over the bars and glueing with a heavy bond and small brush. Just make sure you have the doors open for ventilation otherwise you will be high as a kite!

Make sure that the roof is taught on all the corners, especially at the back around the rim of the rear window. The last thing you want is for sharp triangular creases to form and damage the window when putting the top up and down.

Another tip is if you have to alter / stretch the top into a better fit, leave the roof up for a few hours in direct strong sunlight, this will soften the vinyl and make it easy to adjust.

A second pair of hands also make an invaluable tool.
