Carb Options
Carb Options
I realize that there is a lot of information about carburetors on this site pertaining to Weber carbs, but is there anyone running a Holley 5200? Will this carb even fit? Do most all Weber 2 barrel down draft carbs have the same mounting pattern?
I'm just looking for more information on this subject as the stock carb (28/32 ADHA) on my Fiat has to go.
Thanks,
Jason

Re: Carb Options
I'd go with a bigger Weber. Brad Artigue's website has all the information you could need on the subject. I've never seen a Holley on a Fiat, but surely it could be done with an adapter. Unless you just have one laying around for free, I wouldn't bother.

Re: Carb Options
The Holly 5200 is a copy of the 2 barrel Weber built under license. It is a direct bolt on and is a upgrade with lower cost than the Weber with a 36 X 32 barrels.

Re: Carb Options
the Holley 5200 will fit, but the water choke uses heater hose instead of 5/16 hose like the Webers and the linkage will have to modified. This used to be a common upgrade when Pintos were plentiful in the wrecking yards. One big difference is that the 5200 uses a power valve.

Re: Carb Options
For an unmodified or lightly-modified 1608 - 1995cc engine, the 32/36 DFEV has been used very successfully by many members of this forum. Its sold by all the usual suppliers, complete with linkage adaptor, and there are several threads on this modification. I couldn't find a single derogatory review by users, and it uses the stock air cleaner, to boot.
If (and only if) you're doing a complete performance build, you could use the 38 DGS, which is a synchronous carb, meaning that both barrels operate simultaneously. Equate to a "38/38" conventional Weber. Very easy to bog down the motor at low RPMs, however. Again, we're talking about a motor with cams, porting, exhaust, timing, etc. Don't bother with the DGAS or DGES, the choke is superfluous on a performance engine, and you can always attach a manual cable and wire to the DGS. I don't use mine ever; just a couple of jabs and light it up.

Re: Carb Options
from what I have been told the ADFA series is the best stock carb they had. I happen to have one.

Re: Carb Options
Actually I have a old Weber 36 DCD mechanical progressive two barrel that has replaceable venturi's from a Fiat 1200. It has a manual choke and all the parts are available for tuning. I thought about building a cheap performance two liter with the only negative being about 1/4" higher carb height.

Look: http://www.webercarbsdirect.com/38_DGES_p/18930.020.htm - but I have no idea what intake and linkage you need.
I'd call them.

Stefan

Re: Carb Options
As Stefan suggests, Webercarbsdirect is one source, and is where I got mine. SoCal Mark now has a less-expensive EMPI clone, and he could probably help you with linkage. I used a custom cable assembly from Pegasus, but I've seen (a photo of) Mark's installation, and it looks very sanitary.nettxtra wrote:Where can one buy WEBER 38 DGS for Fiat Spider?
I am now kissing you on the cheek, and hope you have heeded my advice about other modifications necessary to run this carb in a street application.
