Ok, sorry, my bad, i see you documented that repair on page 2. You eliminated those quirky captive bolts inside the rail and installed long bolts from top to bottom. Fiat should have done that from the start but i guess the extra holes would have created a stress point. If they beefed up the area in in the first place as you did...
My right inner fender has similar uneveness as yours shows, either by a hit or the tower is slowly starting to lean in. In any case my alignment guy notices the camber cannot be put into spec by slight but compensates another adjust somehow to keep the steering from pulling, (not sure of the exact detail). What i do know is the car steers dead on and there's no uneven tire wear.

Drummond, looking really good! Do you have a link to all of the various photos for your restoration, or is everything in this thread?

Here's something that might provide some info regarding that wrinkled section in the engine compartment, at the top area of the shock mount:

Jim would you happen to have a photo of how the door window cable is wound on the electric motor capstan??

Thank you so much. I believe the capstans on mine are shot. There was a lot of corrosion on them and just spraying them with WD-40 I can see the ridge separating the winding's is about 1/2 as high as yours. I think that is contributing to the cable jumping out of place

Did you actually separate all of the skins from the hood, trunk doors etc?!!

Hi frankd1

I separated the hood and the trunk. if I did not they would have had to be scrapped, as there was way too much rust inside. I was not going to paint with that hovering over my head. Plus I only took on this project as a low budget affair, repair as much as possible, replace as little as possible.
The doors I only replaced the bottom halves.
The hood and trunk separation was an easy project. you just have to get over the separation anxiety :D The reconstruction of the drivers fender and inner fender was a pain in the *** took a loooong time, lots of measurements time and time again.

That's the only way to truly get at it all...plus you can seal everything up with masterseries silver or por15 and never have to worry about it again!

Actually I have mechanical windows on my car. The electric motors assemblies I have are spare parts I just happen to have. One of them had the cable jammed and crushed between the capstan and the housing. The cable is too bent up to use. When I wind good sections of cable into the groove I was thinking the groove was too shallow. I worked in aviation and aircraft autopilots use similar setups with cables and capstans. I was use to seeing much deeper seating of the cable into the groove on the autopilots. I wasn't sure if my memory was failing or if what I have is they way it should be. Your photos show a much deeper seating of the cable into the capstan groove so I guess the two I have are worn out. The motors themselves seem to test good. I haven't taken the motors apart to clean and lubricate them yet.

Now the paint has sat for two weeks time for a polishing. Good job its winter would not like to do this in the heat of the summer :D
Very happy how its turned out. just have to make sure not to scratch it when putting it together.
