That's no good. We missed having you there, but I am very thankful for your help over the course of last week. Hope you get to feeling better, and I'm sure I'll talk to you again this coming week.spiderrey wrote:sorry, guys, i got up at 6.30 am to load up and go. but all i ended up doing was blowing chunks and laying in bed all day. wish i was there. i always seem to miss the good stuff. nice job.

Re: Engine Swap Questions and Progress (was "Rebirth!")
Got a LOT done, but still quite a bit left. The different configurations of the two engines threw us for a loop a couple of times. We went back and forth on whether to put it in the old configuration with the smog pump on the cam pulley, or to the new configuration with having to move the alternator wiring. Somehow we ended up with the cam towers for the new configuration and the pulleys for the old configuration, so there is a little backtracking to do there. So Cal Mark wrote:sorry I didn't make it back, what's left to do?
The various 'accessories' all still need to go on - alternator, oil filter thingy, smog pump, egr stuff... The oil procedure that Alvon described above, the engine needs to go into the car, and hook everything back up.
We never got to the point of rolling the car out of the garage to really clean out the engine bay, so I still need to do that before the engine goes back in.
My biggest concern is not things I know I need to do, but don't know how - I can always ask about those. It is all those things that I don't even know to ask. There were a lot of those yesterday - like Engine Assembly Lube. Never heard of it before, and didn't know it needed to go on the cam shafts when they were installed. If Alvon hadn't posted about the oil procedure, it would not have occurred to me to do it. My fear is how many of those kinds of things experienced wrenchers have in their heads that I'm just going to miss - so if you think of any, please just post them here and I'll use this as a sort of encyclopedia along with my manuals.
I'm taking the day off today. My family needs to be reminded that I don't live in the garage.
Thank again everyone!

Hey Craig, at my age I've learned when to volunteer. Plus, I try to look a little gaunt for the pity factor!

Good question Rey. Ace and I were just talking, wondering how it's going.

Re: Engine Swap Questions and Progress (was "Rebirth!")
My apologies! I've been swamped catching up on things that I let slide last week as I took every afternoon off to work on the car. I finally got back in the garage last night and just started putting things on the engine so that it would seem like I was making progress. Cyclonic trap, alternator, intake and exhaust manifolds are all on now, and I started switching back to the correct pulleys for the setup that takes the smog pump off the cam pulley. One of those pulleys has a really big nut which I can't get off, so Reyy, at some point I'll probably call to see if you can come over with your air wrench and bigger sockets again.
I still need to clean out the engine bay, circulate oil through the engine (per Alvon's instructions), and install more pieces and parts. I'm gonna have to remove two of the cam bolts on the intake side because they have to hold down the oil dipstick bracket, and we forgot to put that on - so that means two careful rounds of torquing those bolts again.
Tappy, I'll get some pics up for you as soon as I can.
Alvon - I got your voicemail late last night. We put three shims in, one was .1695, one was .1450 and the other went in before you asked me to start keeping track, so I don't have it. It should be in the neighborhood of .1455.
Thanks again!

Thanks Steve, hearing from you is a relief of sorts. I figured you were swamped, so I let you have some catch up time before giving a shout.
Keep us posted when you get a chance, and don't be shy about calling for help if you need it.

Thank you Alvon. Somehow I missed your post. Wouldn't the aux shaft hit the crank, if the crank and the aux shaft doesn't rotate in unison?
