Agreed that this is a society issue. Still disagree that guns are the problem. The exampLes of natural disasters provided are not to the scale I am saying would cause widespread social disorder. I'm talking about a widespread outage disrupting the very fabric of an economy. 1or 2 hundred million without power, gas, food for more than a couple weeks.

Here below is a link to a wonderful article that gets to the core of American resistance to gun registration, and is a well written piece of history as well. It is well worth treading through in its entirety. Hopefully this can help get the discussion back on track.

As said a few months ago, registering firearms in order to stop law abiding citizens from committing crimes, is like registering virgins in order to stop prostitution.

And in the spirit of true compromise, I of course have no arguments if they would like to register firearms such as this one:

To put this into perspective, Stephen P. Halbrook is lead council for the NRA.

ok guys, i'll just wait untill next mass shooting occurs. does it have to be someone near and dear to you to realise that something's rotten in USA?
again, it's not happening in my neck of the woods, so no pressure from me, i'm just curious to see what it will take to finally do something.

children are growing up in a gun culture. guns are everywhere, from home to school tru TV. if my kid had to go tru metal detector on door of his school, i'd be bloody outraged.

Merry Christmas All!
This is too easy to explain. While other countries waited around for their independence/freedom/rights whatever our forefathers demanded it and took it. And just in case George Washington decided to become a God or King our constitution allowed the citizens to take our government back by having the "right to bear arms". I think the most important question that American citizens should be asking themselves is..... is this "right" relevant in this present day? Has anyone noticed how corrupt our government is lately?

Sorry but I work in Trenton everyday and I get to witness what effects left leaning minded well wishers have done to a once proud area. Corrupt officials... daily murders (by individuals that do not fill out paperwork for guns). NJ has some of he most strictest gun laws and yet the murdering continues.

Guess what I did yesterday?

I know the man in the bottom picture would pass a law forbidden himself from taking any unnecessary risks for "my benefit"

Lanciahf, that is truly awesome. Sounds like a great day. Very familiar with Trenton area. Hopefully it never evolves to a Camden. I grew up Philadelphia and appreciate our forefathers and the right to bear arms.

TX82FIAT is was a great day, its amazing what those guys risked. I think that is the difference between then and now. Then the people in power risked everything for independence, Currently people in power would not risk anything and will do anything to stay in power.

Unfortunately Trenton is on its way to becoming a Camden, the city gets worse every year. I think Trenton is up to 89% public assistance. You know free iPhones.

Jim is right. Relax. The problem is rooted in both the behavior of humans, and the access to firearms by criminals. Neither have been very well addressed as of yet in the US, but the answer will not be the confiscation of firearms here. Forget it, not gonna happen. That is a major reason why there is such an impasse on the problem. You have the liberals on the one side, advocating for the repeal of the 2A, generally lighter/shorter sentences for criminals, and the enablement of confiscation by the creation of a master Federal database of legal firearms owners, and the rest of us on the other side, advocating for more personal liberty, the maintenance of the 2A, and more and stronger laws to punish and disarm the perps who do violate the thousands of laws already on the books. The only thing currently that the two sides seem to have in common is a desire to have some sort of mental health database included in the NICBC system, but even getting this to happen is difficult.

Are you in the picture Lanciahf? We have re-enactments here each summer, in Millis MA, of various revolutionary battles, with cannon, horses, etc. It is a lot of fun to witness. Hundreds of actors, from many surrounding states, converge. They camp out and cook for the weekend using historically accurate tents, cooking, meals, etc. A hell of a lot of work and effort with attention to detail. They all seem to enjoy it, except for those who are "killed" early in the re-enactment and have to stay lying still on the ground for an hour or two. I assume there is a pecking order to this and that they are the newcomers and don't get top billing. Bravo to you for participating in keeping our history alive.

Here again is that link to a wonderful article that gets to the core of American resistance to gun registration, and is a well written piece of history as well. It is well worth treading through in its entirety.

Yes, this is an "NRA" document. Shouldn't be much of a surprise, as they are pretty much the only advocate for the 2A in the US, outside of the loosely organized Tea Party. Here is some more info on Halbrook. He is an accomplished lawyer, having participated in McDonald-vs-City of Chicago at the SCOTUS.

Don't feel too bad, my dear wife, whom I love to pieces, watches The Maury show, you know, the one with the DNA testing? My God, seeing the people on that show makes one scared for the country's future. I pray that they don't vote.

I never, ever heard a single shot for the first 3/4 of my life, back in Germany.
Now I live in the U.S.
You people should all live where I live. It happens almost every day in my neighborhood, in my street, people getting shot.
I have witnessed shootings where people actually got hit and I can hear shots all summer long.
I don't duck anymore, I just don't go for walks anymore.
