Guys, looks like everyone needs to take a chill pill. :D

I personally can't justify the cost of Mark's system as I have a freshly refurbished and perfectly functional stock distributor with one of Vick's more modern coil packs. BUT, if I had a non-functioning or broken distributor / ignition I would make the swap in a heartbeat. It ain't always about HP and I don't think Mark was trying to claim that was a primary benefit when he posted the dyno runs. AND it is true that the claims of "more reliable" have yet to be proven. BUT at the same time how many other vendors bother to test their products, let alone publish the test results for all to see.

Mark has an alternative to a system that is becoming more expensive and harder to source parts for with every passing day that most certainly also provides better spark at high RPM. No one is forcing anyone who is happy with what they have to change it out but I for one like the idea that I need not worry that 10 years from now I might not be able to get OEM ignition parts.

The electronics in this system have been on the market for over 10 years. The only difference is we had a housing built to fit the Fiat TC. The fact that you can criticize something you know nothing about is interesting. If you made even a cursoy effort to research the system you would learn how long it's been on the market.
Making the engine bay more tidy is an added benefit. There are several reasons we brought this system to market for Spiders; much improved performance over the stock systems (points or oem electronics), added hood clearance for engine swaps, much improved reliability.
If you're happy repairing your Marelli system every year, more power to you. Purchasing replacement marelli parts helps keep the other vendors in business.

Also, I understand that you haven't run tens of thousands of hours on your system as people have with the factory system. Believing you're system is more reliable doesn't make it so. Time and use prove that. Let me know when you produce 10,000 of these and have 20,000 miles on each one. Then you can prove if it's more reliable.
Do you still have a black and white TV? I hear they are very reliable.

I believe there is someone out there who has done a conversion of a Knock Sensor Golf GTI 8V distributor to an 850. I have tried to find a knock sensor ignition for my car. To me that would be THE ultimate ignition system for our cars. Running a system with an aggressive advance curve that would work with any compression ratio and automatically dial back at the onset of detonation is what these cars really need.

Having said that hats off to Mark, he is only here to help us. I know him personally and have been to his shop. He is a professional and is in the business to earn an income (as much money as he can) and to service cars which includes all makes. But he is a Fiat guy at heart and he truly wants to help us enhance the performance of our cars. The ignition system that he has helped put together is blending the 21st century electronics into our cars. I certainly won't fault him for that. If he or anyone else is ever able to bring a true knock sensor ignition to market for our cars I will be the first in line to purchase one.

[quote="So Cal Mark"]I realize the concept may be too complex

Okay, I just re re-read this thread to see where it got so off track. The apparent pissing match between you two has gone beyond what anyone else needs to hear. Either take it to PMs or drop it.

Mark, as the moderator AND someone who sells products you should recognize that you have an ADDED responsibility to remain civil and self check. IMHO if you can't do that then you need to choose between a vendor role and a moderator role.

Brunorahl, not sure why you are so up in arms and so bent on trashing Mark's system. We get your point that it is an expensive upgrade but after all you began this by asking how it was better than a different aftermarket system that costs MORE.

Both of you needs to stop sounding like my kids sniping and take it back to a civil discussion or drop it. If you were the kids in the back seat you would have gotten a stern "Don't make me stop this car!" a while back.

haha, that is not what I've described at all. Discussion is fine, unwarranted bashing is not.

brunorahl,

I don't know Mark personally and I've never met him. I HAVE bought several products from him and every one has been exactly as described, usually cheaper than anyone else was selling it to boot. In addition he has spent lots of time on the phone with me helping me work through problems with my car with no compensation and no sale on several occasions. I have also noted that he is a tireless contributor here on the site as well as reading lots of testimonials from others he has helped. Now before you go "yeah and you are all a bunch of idiots" I have owned over 100 cars in my lifetime and built with my own two hands national concours winning cars so I ain't some rookie who is easily duped.

You have made serious accusations in this last post, the kind of statements that in a court of law could get you successfully sued for liable if groundless. I suggest you either make in clear unambiguous statements your case that Mark has "ripped off" someone or "tricked or conned" people. If you cannot then by all means, get out of the sandbox.

Mark, as you have mentioned in the past, the vacume advance on my dist has just bit the dust. Was new last November when I dropped the new engine in and worked till recently. I seemed to have lost a bit of get-up and -go at highr rpms but still runs relativly fine. Project this winter I think is going to be your system :D Perhaps a cam as well.
In the meantime because $$/wallet am going to try and fabricate a heat shield mounted to 3 of the cam tower bolts. I have some 1/16 aluminum from a time X road sign.
question though.. is it easy/difficult to mount it on the block like in the car on the other post (Jimmies?) I like the look of it down there instead of sticking up on the cam tower... 80 FI engine

It's very easy to install the trigger in the block location. Two mods have to be done though; the alternator bracket needs to have the two bends slightly changed and the dipstick tube has to be rotated to a different orientation. Neither mod is difficult and only takes a few minutes to perform

Mark,

Do you know if the block mounted kit will fit under a waffle manifold?

Thanks,

Give up the measurement from the mounting point to the bottom of the manifold to figure it out. How tall is the new setup, and how wide.
