Reading this thread, cutting two coils up front and one coil in the rear seems to be the general concensus to level and lower the car. What I'd like to know from anyone that has done this is has cutting the springs made the car ride more harshly? Any unwanted bottoming out?
Thanks!

the ride is harsher, it has to be with less spring length.

If I heard right. We can get shorter springs. But they are performance springs. They would be harsh also. Correct me if I'm wrong. Also, is it possible to media blast springs? Or would that weaken them?

Mark,
When you shorten the springs, does the effective spring rate increase proportionally to the amount shortened? i.e, a 15" spring cut to 13" is reduced in length approx. 13.5%. Will the effective spring rate increase by a similar amount?
It would be great to lower the car, I just don't want to turn it into a buckboard.

the spring rate does increase, but unless you lower it to the bump stops the ride is firm but not buckboard quality. Everyone has been happy with the cars I've lowered

o k. on later cars you cut 2 front and one rear. whats the deal on early more desirable cars? i once installed new lowering springs on a stock 68, and they raised the car.

I don't know...maybe cut 1/2 a coil in the rear and 1 full in the front? I'd like to know what the different spring rates are too. Are the front springs on the later models stiffer than the rears?

the front springs should be stiffer, they're holding up a lot more weight

i dont think you got the question. it was whats the difference in front spring rates from early to late spider. if any. thats what i got out of it.

I answered Denises' question. Your question can't be intelligently answered without more infomation; current height, amount you want to lower it, space from the bump stop to control arm, tire clearance, shock travel
