The early models didn't have the lower grille. I don't know why they added it since I've never had an overheating problem due to air flow.

Yep, the second (lower) grille cut-out was post-74.

since North America was the primary market for the Spider, perhaps they anticipated the addition of AC or realized the need for extra cooling as the engines got larger

Very nice pictures the car looks great! I noticed from the picture of the rear that you had the same problem as me. When i took the bumpers off i had to drop the gas tank after to get the drivers side bumper post off, what a pain!

Hi -
removing the rear driver side bumper bracket is easier than I thought - after a hint I got in another forum - I did this last spring by removing all the nuts around the tank and then lifting it up w/ my hydraulic jack (plus a rather big piece of wood to distribute the power) until I was able to access the bolt holding it. It will squeeze the big rubber hose a bit but left it intact (with some safety) - it's a 20/30 minutes job, a lot easier than I thought. I recommend to have a nearly empty tank at that point of time.

Thanks guys, yes they were the side markers. I thought they looked more correct to the car so we changed them up a bit so they would work as the signal lights.
