I have been playing around with a cupholder ,off the front of the console,w/ mixed results.Your idea is much better,as I really miss having somewhere to rest my arm after an hour of driving.I hear a lot of people use the gearshift for that,leading to the popping out of gear after a period of such abuse! I will use yours as a pattern,and see what I come up with. The purists should like that it comes out easily for shows ,etc..

If only a cupholder is required, there are several available to boaters with a gimbal mount. Detachable models leave only the small dovetail mount permanently mounted. I used one in a domestic sedan decades ago.

I always rested my hand on the leg of that pretty blond in the passenger seat and an armrest/cup holder would just get in the way..... But I suppose you all can't be as luck as I!
