Claudio,

FCA used that term at the unveiling. It refers to the fact that most sensible people do not purchase a 2 seater convertible sports car. And the fact that this is a major step into this limited market. This is simply a statement of fact.

I live in a metro suburb of Dallas... And since the launch of the new MX5 (~6 mos. ago), I have seen more Bentleys than Mx5s. It is just a very small market... So I would certainly agree with their assessment.

Here is a look under the hood. I think the heat shielding for the Turbo on the underside of the hood is interesting. Also. look at the MOPAR stamp on the hoof liner!!
Buon giro a tutti! - enjoy the ride!

In the Press Kit link that I provided earlier, there is a video that references the original 124 Spider. It looks like Gary's car. Is it?

If I understand it means "all the look, admire them, but then choose any other car. Wait.
In Italy it happens so. I myself have waited 50 years to have a spider.
I think it'll give one to my daughter not to repeat the mistake.
Spider one thing that makes life worth living.

I do not think it looks bad. Want to see it in person. also want to see the cost. If good I can wait a few years and pick one up.
I think it looks much better than the first years of retro Challenger vs. the original. The Challenger is starting to look better now - maybe Fiat will improve but we have to remember all of the safety standards in force today, so doubt will ever look like the original.

Claudio,

When I started restoring my 1972 Spider my daughter was 3 years old. I told her one day this would be her car. Now Im afraid to give her the car when she is old enough to drive. Here in Texas, every 2nd car on the road is and SUV or PickUp truck. And a 1000kg vs 2500kg is no contest.

I dont know what car my daughter will drive, but I hope that she enjoys driving as much as her old papa does. And judging by how eager she is to help work on the cars... I think she has a little of it in her blood too.

Ciao!

It's still more an Abarth Miata then a Fiat Spider to me.

As others have said this is a niche market.
And while the Abarth version may well be a hoot to drive, it's all going to come down to $$$$.

The introduction of the 500 was a slow process in market gain. I have to admit, I'm seeing more and more of them on the streets of Phoenix.
Don't know if it's enough to sustain the marque in the states or not.

Like the new 500, the new 124 isn't practical for me. Maybe if I didn't have the original for a toy.
