picked up the car today. as i posted the overgeat switch (top of engine to the front) was replaced and did not fix problem.
turns out the rear sensor (top of engine near firewall) had a bad wire connection. i think all he did was clean the connections.....an presto..
how mant times have we read, check electrical connections, etc...
jees.... i'm glad my gauge is working, and I"ll leave it at that.
