Makes sense. Otherwise it wouldn't have any effect on the flywheel.

When you tap it in, there is a fairly obvious point where it bottoms out, you can hear it on the socket, and feel it in the light hammer blows.

New Oil Pan Gasket, Clutch, Pilot Bearing, Crankshaft seal, Seal housing gasket are in.
Installation of the new bearing was a breeze. Oil Pan gasket is fussy without removing the crossmember, but certainly doable.
Now to open up the transmission (finally) and see what's what. I suspect new bearings, gasket set and whatever causes 5 to to pop out on decel and we are good to go. Might as well do it all now and never worry about it again.

Wow. Great timing. I just installed mine the wrong way! Glad I read this... but before I reinstalled my transmission.RRoller123 wrote:Watch that rubber boot, it can be installed two ways. The rubber design has a thin "U" shaped slot cut into the boot, so that it fits around and inside, seals, the "U" shape of the arm of the clutch bar that passes through it, and this design reversed itself somewhere in the past! So when you get a new one, it may look the same, but check it carefully. We put ours side by side, new and old, and they are NOT the same. Only the "U" shaped cutout slot has changed. Either way, the boot can be installed two ways, at 180 degrees out from each other. Regardless, the wedge sits inside the case.
