I was thinking maybe a shot of George, Ralph and me with our shirts off, but good taste prevailed.
Craig, it starts on the turn of the key, shifts smooth, revs fine and stops stright. No obvious leaks. Zero rust under the back seat or in the spare tire well, or anywhere else. Temp perfect and the fan works fine. All the lights work, blinkers blink (and cancel), original radio plays through the center speaker. There is a CD/radio in the glove box with a remote control playing throught speakers above the map pockets. Tinny but what do I care.
Gotta get the timing belt changed. And I know I should change all the fluids. But I'm no mechanic and I'm afraid if I start messing with things I might upset the balance.
Plenty of rattles, the driver's door in particular, and the emergency brake cable banging on the muffler. No jack, no tire iron, a flat spare tire, no sunvisors. Green vinyl peeling off the bottom edge of the dash, I'll have to try to re-glue it, engine compartment filthy. Oh, no convertable boot, very disappointed about that, even more so when I looked up what a new one costs. Needs tires and I suspect an alignment based on the tread wear pattern.
Original carpet is rough, original seatbelts a joke, they have to be high on the list. Original boards and original mat, now falling apart, in the trunk. The big screw and wing nut to hold down the spare has gone missing too. Oringinal gas tank is factory fresh. Amazing. A little white battery acid dust and blistered paint in and around the battery box, I've got to clean that up, but really after 35 years its hard to believe.
I've heard about California cars my whole life, but wow, i had no idea how gentle that climate must be.
