Oh my, that sooooo good!So Cal Mark wrote:since Caribou never shipped parts that were paid for, it's easy to spend $15k and not have anything to show for it

Re: Wow what a find!
alright.... the Fiat badge on the inside of the driver's door is there to cover the hole left behind from the original mirror paddle adjuster ... which i could never for the life of me figure out why we needed remote adjustment for that mirror.
DANG! is that a two toned steering wheel? OMG i gotta have one of those, i'll pay $10k just for that wheel...
i went to a hot rod/muscle car restoration shop this past september, and was given a quote for paint and exterior body work..no undercarriage work at all. I did all the stripping of interior/lights/trim/glass, and basically provided a shell with suspension and wheels. i did all the reassembly work. i told the guy i wanted a DAILY DRIVER when he was finished, not a trailer queen.
his opening comment to me was "Never seen a Fiat in person" he then proceeded to tell me that his two man shop was booked until early spring (this was in September). it would be a close call to have it back to me in time for me to make FFO in July.
with a straight face, he told me he'd need the car for at least 90 days. he said MINIMUM $15,000, depending on what he ran into along the way.
as i drove away, i said "and you'll never see another Fiat with those quotes!!"

Wow Mike, 15K? What, you gonna have her gold leafed? I can't believe some people can actually say things like that with a streight face.
Re: Wow what a find!
not just a straight face... he was SERIOUS.
all along he'd been telling me about the first class supplies he uses..yada yada. at the end he said, when you're done, you'll have fifteen into it.
i thought he meant $1,500 in supplies. so i asked him to be more literal,in case i was misunderstanding.. he said $15,000 for everything.
no gold plating was quoted.

I guess someone must be going for it if he's got a waiting list. I know a guy who just paid $8000. To get his 71 MGB painted, it's now worth 4000.

Re: Wow what a find!
well, the muscle car boyz certainly like him. shoulda seen the TransAm in the drive, the '58 TBird in the stall and the Copo Camaro in the back room. that didn't include the '55 woodie on the rack...can't recall the year or make.
way over my head. and yup, that $15 plus the new interior i'd had to buy to coordinate with it would have produced a Spider that i'd have difficulty selling for over $9,000

That 400 dollar spider looks like a great deal.
That'll buff right out, no problem.

I think it has sentimental value to the seller, probably some relative was buried in it 25 yrs ago

Re: Wow what a find!
If that Spider was over here in Oz, I'd snap it up at that price . Any sort of spares for them are difficult to obtain here, and it wouldn't take too many shipments from the US to total $400 in shipping costs alone.

I think I have you all beat . Take a look at this beauty in Montreal. I don't feel so bad about the money I've been spending on my car any more.
